1. What the checkup provides
The Home Energy Checkup is a free, do-it-yourself educational tool. It organizes information you provide about your home, bills, equipment, and observations into a report with practical ideas for reducing energy waste and improving comfort.
2. Educational information, not professional advice
The checkup is not a certified home energy audit, inspection, utility analysis, engineering assessment, or professional diagnosis. It does not measure your home or inspect equipment. Calculations and recommendations are estimates based on the information you enter and may be incomplete or inaccurate.
The report does not guarantee energy or cost savings, determine eligibility for rebates or incentives, or replace advice from a qualified energy auditor, contractor, utility, or other professional. Review recommendations for your circumstances and verify costs, requirements, and safety before acting.
Do not use the checkup to assess an urgent safety issue. For electrical, gas, combustion, structural, moisture, or other potentially hazardous conditions, stop and consult a qualified professional. Follow equipment instructions and applicable codes.
3. Your responsibilities
You are responsible for the information you enter and how you use the report. You agree to:
- Use the service only for lawful purposes and for a home you own, occupy, or are authorized to assess.
- Enter information you have permission to provide and avoid including sensitive details that are not requested.
- Use your judgment and seek qualified help when a project involves specialized skills, safety risks, permits, or code requirements.
- Keep any private resume link secure and use it only for your own checkup.
4. Your information
You retain your rights to information you enter. You allow the service to process that information as needed to create your report, save a checkup when you request a private resume link, operate the website, and protect it from misuse.
Answers are saved in your browser. If you choose to save a private resume link, your answers are also stored in the application database. Anyone with the full link can view, change, or delete that saved checkup. You can delete a saved copy through the report. More detail is in the Privacy Policy.
5. Acceptable use
Do not attempt to disrupt or overload the service, bypass its security controls, access another person’s saved checkup without permission, or use the service to violate a law or another person’s rights. We may limit or suspend access to protect the service, its users, or others.
6. Third-party products and services
The service may refer to products or independent home-energy professionals. Any provider is separate from energyaudits.net. Check their qualifications, prices, scope of work, and terms before purchasing or hiring. Your agreement for that product or service is with the provider, and we do not control or guarantee their work.
7. Ownership and service changes
The website, checkup design, software, and original content belong to their respective owners and are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws. You may use the service for personal, non-commercial home assessment, but may not copy or redistribute the service itself without permission.
We may update, suspend, or discontinue features as the service changes. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability or that a particular report, recommendation, or feature will always be available.
8. Disclaimer of warranties
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the website, checkup, and report are provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of accuracy, availability, fitness for a particular purpose, or suitability for your home. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain warranty exclusions, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
9. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, energyaudits.net and the people who operate it will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for costs, losses, property damage, or injury arising from your use of or reliance on the checkup or report. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot legally be excluded.
10. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms when the service or applicable requirements change. We will post the current version here and revise the “Last updated” date. Continued use of the service after an update means you accept the revised terms.
These terms are written in plain language and are not legal advice. They should be reviewed by a qualified attorney for the jurisdictions where the service is offered.
